Born in 1963 in Gouda in the Netherlands, Peter Stas graduated in Business Economics from Rotterdam University before following a Business Case Study programme at Harvard. He began his career in 1987 as a consultant with law firm Loyens & Loeff in New York, and in 1989 he joined Royal Philips Electronics in Eindhoven as Sales Manager for the American market. Two years later he was promoted to Product Marketing Manager for the Asia-Pacific region, and moved to Hong Kong.
Peter Stas is also a 4th generation descendant of Constant Stas, a dial maker, and he developed an interest in watchmaking from an early age. The idea of creating his own brand arose during a visit to Switzerland, when he and his wife realised that there was very little available in the way of affordable luxury. They launched their first prototype in 1992, but waited until 1997 to leave their respective careers in Hong Kong, move to Geneva and devote themselves full-time to Frédérique Constant. Peter Stas is its CEO and Aletta Stas-Bax is COO.
