The SIHH 2015 started amidst uncertainty on the currency markets triggered by the Swiss National Bank’s decision, just days before the start of the show, to abandon the exchange rate peg it had been supporting between the Swiss franc and the euro. Within hours Swiss exports suddenly became 20% more expensive in most of the major markets. We will deal with the fall-out from this decision later this week.
“A. Lange & Söhne’s Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is yours for a cool €440,000!”
The new watches on show last week, which were featured in over 50 separate articles on WorldTempus as part of our SIHH 2015 dossier, show that the industry is well equipped to weather any storm with the variety that it can offer. From Montblanc’s e-Strap and unbeatably priced Orbis Terrarum to A. Lange & Söhne’s Zeitwerk Minute Repeater (yours for a cool €440,000), the luxury watch brands have all bases covered.
Just as our meeting planning at WorldTempus switches immediately to BaselWorld in less than two months’ time, so does our coverage, with some of the first preview models for the show already published and more to come this week. Don’t forget our exciting new World Watch Retailer Awards, launched last week. Between now and the end of April, we are offering retailers some very attractive incentives to pick their favourite watches. Find out more at www.world-watch-retailer-awards.com.
